Basic Biographical Details Name: | Alexander Fraser & Sons | Designation: | | Born: | 28 March 1885 | Died: | 1981 | Bio Notes: | Alexander Fraser was born in Saltcoats, Ayrshire c.1822 and was apprenticed as a mason. He moved to Dysart in 1850, working initially as a grocer (1851) at Nether Street, Pathhead and subsequently as a slater (1852). He married Isabella Bonellie and their son Alexander was born c.1853. By 1861 the elder Alexander Fraser had commenced contracting, his first employment in Kirkcaldy being the extension of the East Pier. He was promoted to the post of foreman and later set up his own business as a builder, latterly also working in quarrying.
Fraser moved his business to Nairn Street and by 1879 had taken his son Alexander into partnership as Alexander Fraser & Son, builders. On 28 March 1885 another son, John, was also made a partner, the practice title becoming Alexander Fraser & Sons. By that time Alexander Fraser senior had retired. A further son, William, also became a partner.
Alexander Fraser senior died on 4 April 1903 in his eighty-first year. His business was continued by his sons William and Alexander. Alexander Fraser junior died on 14 March 1911 at the age of fifty-eight.
