He was taken into partnership by his brothers sometime after 1885, by which time his father had retired although the firm had retained the title of Alexander Fraser & Sons.
Alexander Fraser senior died on 4 April 1903 in his eighty-first year. His business was continued by his sons William and Alexander. Alexander Fraser junior died on 14 March 1911 at the age of fifty-eight.
