She studied at Belfast School of Art and Technology for three years before moving to Edinburgh to take up a post in the office of Alan Reiach in 1959. After around two years in that firm, she left for the practice of Basil Spence & Partners (which became Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson in 1964). There, she worked with Coila Clyne on the James Clerk Maxwell Building, and designed a staircase for Abbotsinch Airport, among other projects.
She married Tony Finlay, a colleague in the Spence firm.
