During his stay in Stonehaven he had a collision while on his bicycle with a motor vehicle in Allardice Street though he was not seriously injured. He moved (perhaps after Gregory's death in 1927?) to work for of Gall & Hay in Aberdeen.

In 1927 he was appointed to a post with the Government of Northern Ireland. He married Lizzie Fitzsimons on 13 October 1934 at the May Street Presbytirian Church Antrim. He remained in Northern Ireland until at least 1943. he was living at 2 Rosetta Drive, Belfast up until then.

Outwith his profession Campbell enjoyed playing football and excelled at golf, being Torphins Club champion for several years in the mid-1920s.
