Bio Notes: John Mamoch Legge was born on 20 June 1936 and received his diploma in architecture at Aberdeen. He became an associate in the firm of Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson in January 1969 and was made a partner in 1973. When the firm closed in 1992, he set up the practice of Legge Associates Chartered Architects in Dalkeith with Bengt Ericsson.

Ericsson had been born on 24 March 1947 in Västerås, Sweden and had passed the Building Engineering examination there in 1967. After national service in 1968-9, he had worked for the practice of Alnefelt & Tollbom Arkitektkontor AB in Västerås until 1971 when he had enrolled on a Masters course in Engineering in Architecture at the University of Stockholm. Concurrently with this course of study, he had been employed on an ad hoc basis by the Stockholm practice ELLT Arkitektkontor AB. He had moved to Scotland in August 1978, working initially for the Derek Lovejoy Partnership in Edinburgh and moving to the office of Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson three years later. He had been made Associate Partner in 1987.

Legge renovated his house at Eskbank Toll to house the practice. His two sons, both quantity surveyors, were also in the firm, which adopted the title Legge Ericsson Architects in 1997 when Ericsson was made a Director.

John M Legge retired in 1999 and died in late 2000. Ericsson continued the practice, initially under the existing title, but as Ericsson Architects from 2001.
