Bio Notes: Bengt Ericsson was born on 24 March 1947 in Västerås, Sweden. After passing the Building Engineering examination there in 1967, he undertook national service in 1968-9. He then worked for the practice of Alnefelt & Tollbom Arkitektkontor AB in Västerås until 1971 when he enrolled on a Masters course in Engineering in Architecture at the University of Stockholm. Concurrently with this course of study, he was employed on an ad hoc basis by the Stockholm practice ELLT Arkitektkontor AB.

He moved to Scotland in August 1978, working for the Derek Lovejoy Partnership in Edinburgh under Douglas Sampson. Three years later he moved to the office of Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson, where he was made Associate Partner in 1987.

On closure of the Spence firm in 1992, he joined one of the firm's partners, John Legge, in the forming of Legge Associates Chartered Architects, based in Eskbank, Midlothian. The practice title became Legge Ericsson Architects in 1997 when Ericsson was made a Director.

Legge retired in 1999 and died the following year. Ericsson continued the practice, initially under the existing title, but as Ericsson Architects from 2001. As of 2011, the firm is still based in its original offices at Annfield House, Eskbank Toll, formerly a branch of the Bank of Scotland. The practice's projects have ranged from private homes for individuals to large-scale commercial structures and airport buildings. Clients have included BAA, Scottish Airports, Scottish Widows, The Collective New York and UK, Inver House Distillers and Midlothian Council, as well as the John Lewis Partnership, for whom it was responsible for new-build and refurbished department stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Bristol, Trafford and Cardiff.

Ericsson joined the SAR (Swedish Association of Architects) in 1978, the ARB in 1980, the RIAS in 1987, and the RIBA in 1998, and has been a Member of the Institute of Directors since 2000. He has had a lifelong interest in the arts, particularly in paintings, literature, architecture, photography, fine wine and antiques.
