Basic Biographical Details Name: | Walter Stanley Hattrell | Designation: | | Born: | 26 January 1900 | Died: | 1977 | Bio Notes: | Walter Stanley Hattrell was born on 26 January 1900, at Coventry, the son of Walter Herbert Hattrell, architect. He was educated Oundle School and was articled to his father, rising to become senior partner in 1925 following his father's death. The practice title was initially Hattrell & Wortley, Hattrell's partner being his father's chief assistant, P S Wortley who resigned in 1942. The name of the practice changed during this period to W S Hattrell & Partners.
In 1931 Hattrell married Pauline Gertrude, daughter of the late Richard Herbert of Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. They had two sons and one daughter.
In 1938 Hattrell served as chairman of the Coventry Society of Architects. He was elected FRIBA on 6 March 1939. In 1949 he became an underwriting member, Lloyds, and was appointed trustee, Samuel Smith's Charity, Coventry in 1950.
Outwith his professional life, Hattrell enjoyed ornithology, philately, shooting, fishing and golf. In April 1971 W S Hattrell retired to Brancaster, Norfolk, although he continued to act as a consultant to the practice. He was also a JP.
