Bio Notes: Michael Walter Hattrell was the son of Walter Stanley Hattrell, architect, and his wife Pauline Gertrude Herbert. He was articled to his father in about 1955. He studied at the University of Cambridge and afterwards spent a year in the office of Yorke Rosenberg & Mardall in London from 1959-60. He joined his father's practice, W S Hattrell & Partners, as principal in October 1960. He was elected ARIBA in 1961. Shortly thereafter he entered the competition for Paisley Civic Centre.

Hattrell was elected FRIBA on 1 October 1969. He resigned from the practice in 1975.
