He was admitted ARIBA in 1948. Around that time he was living in rented accommodation in Aberdeen. He moved to Edinburgh in the early 1950s and formed a partnership with Donald Punyer Whitehorn as Whitehorn & Brown. The office was in Rutland Street. By the early 1960s he had set up his own practice under the style W G Brown & Co. with an office at 32 Chambers Street. By 1970 Brown had retired or died and the practice was run by F M Howie and F D MacGregor. They had an office at 8 Morningside Road.
