Bio Notes: Albert McCombie was born on 18 October 1923, the son of James Boyne McCombie and his wife Mary Paterson. He studied for the Diploma in Architecture at Aberdeen School of Architecture. He was admitted ARIBA in 1948. He commenced independent practice in 1949 working from his home in a farmhouse near Insch. Later that same year he moved the practice to 102 High Street, Inverurie and in 1952 to Earlsmohr, High Street in the same town. In 1963 once again he moved, this time to 60 Market Place. He was elected FRIAS in 1961.

Alexander Mennie joined the practice as an assistant in 1957 and was taken into partnership in 1965. The practice name then became McCombie & Mennie. In 1964 the practice then moved to 64 Market Street. The practice specialised in work on historic buildings and surveys for the National Trust for Scotland.

McCombie died respiratory and emphysema at the Royal Infirmary Aberdeen on 26 August 1997, survived by his wife Georgina Anderson.

Outwith his professional life, Albert was a founder member of the Inverurie Rotary Club and president in 1960. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in 1988. He was also a long-serving church elder at St Andrews Parish Church and a keen bowler.
He was FRIAS.

He retired from ill-health in late 1993. He died on 26 August 1997, survived by his wife Betty and their son and daughter.
