Bio Notes: John Hall was son of Thomas Douglas Hall, mason, Galashiels and his wife Agnes Stirling and the brother of Robert Hall, mason in Galashiels. He had some architectural pretensions and joined his brother in the family firm, the name becoming Robert Hall & Co at this point. For a time in the mid-19th century John Hall was in partnership with his brother-in -law Andrew Murray as Hall & Murray. When Joihn's son, also John, was taken into partnership in or before 1884, the name became J & J Hall.
