Bio Notes: William Mair Bishop was born on 13 May 1881 and gained experience of estate engineering on the Cleland Estates, Lanarkshire from 1897 to 1899 before being articled for five years to Alexander Cullen in Motherwell. He attended classes in Building and gained the South Kensington certificates. On completing his apprenticeship, by which time Cullen was in partnership with James Lochhead and William Brown, he remained as junior assistant in the same firm for two-and-a-half years before being promoted to senior assistant. He was admitted LRIBA on 24 June 1912, proposed by John Bennie Wilson and the Glasgow Institute of Architects, which Bishop had joined in 1911. Thereafter he set up business on his own account and practised in Motherwell for nearly twenty-five years.

Bishop married Janet Thomson Bonar on 14 June 1911.

Bishop died on 23 January 1941.
