Bio Notes: Alexander Heron was born about 1844, the son of Thomas Heron who worked in the 'Merchant service' and his wife Margaret MacGregor. He was the nephew of Alexander MacGregor, architect, Edinburgh. By the age of fifteen he was articled to MacGregor. After MacGregor's death in 1868 he continued to practise from 3 North Charlotte Street, Edinburgh which was both home and office. Little else is known. He had moved to 23 Bread Street by 1881 where he was a lodger. He does not appear in the 'Architect's, Engineer's and Building Trades' Directory' 1868; he does not seem to have prospered.

He died of pneumonia on 23 December 1889. He never married.
