Gray, Marshall & Associates
Architectural practice
Year Only
1986
Date Not Known
Thomas M Gray was born on 23 August 1933 and attended the Glasgow School of Art at the same time as Andrew Merrylees. He was a bronze medallist in 1954, and received his diploma of Architecture in 1956. He worked in Edinburgh for Sir Basil Spence, Glover & Ferguson from 1964 to 1968, and by 1975 had founded his own practice, T M Gray & Associates. The practice title changed to Gray, Marshall & Associates in 1986, when Gray had entered into partnership with Alan S Marshall. Jocelyn Cunliffe, then an associate, was taken into partnership the following year, although the practice title remained unchanged. As of 2011 Gray, Marshall & Associates is still in operation, specialising in conservation/conversion.

Gray's architecture is inspired by the work of Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen (particularly the latter's St Catherine's College, Oxford) and the discipline of the grid.
