On the death of Sir Frank Mears in 1953 his partners H A Rendel-Govan and Robert James Naismith took charge of the practice and the name changed to Sir Frank Mears & Partners. In 1965 Thomas Smith Jamieson and Hugh W H Crawford were assumed into partnership, followed in 1975 by David G H Waugh. In 1985 the practice split to form Hugh Crawford: Sir Frank Mears and David Waugh: Sir Frank Mears.

In 1970 Sir Frank Mears & Partners were planning consultants to Lanarkshire and the towns of Lanark, Thurso, Perth, St Andrews, Inverkeithing, Dalkeith and Hawick. In the RIBA directory it is noted that they were by that date also planning consultants for the counties of Sutherland Moray and Nairn.

In the period up to 1975 the practice were responsible for the design and arranging construction of 2500 houses in a number of burghs (see list below).
