Superseded the earlier Green's Picturedome, opened 1911, on the same site, after this was destroyed by fire in September 1929. (See separate entry).

The fourth largest cinema in Scotland at the time, the new building seated 1,700 in the stalls alone and a further 1,300 in the balcony.

'Plans for a new picture house to be erected at Boswell Park, Ayr at an estimated cost of £25,000 have been submitted to Ayr Dean of Guild Court. The building is to be erected by Messrs George Green Limited and will take the place of the Playhouse, owned by them, which was destroyed by fire September last' [Builder 18 April 1930 page 778].

'AYR - John Faiweather, FRIBA, 182 Trongate, Glasgow, is architect for the new 'Playhouse' cinema which was announced in our issue of 18 April and is to be built in Boswell Park. Plans for the building which is to cost £25,000 and is for Messrs Green Limited of Glasgow have been passed to Ayr Dean of Guild Court'. [Builder 2 May 1930, p873].
