EDINBURGH.—During the past twelve months there has been in process of building a new Free church at Mayfield. The ground plan is cruciform, with a segmental apse at the east end of the nave. Both transepts are double, and are deeply recessed, while the nave has an aisle on either side. The nave is 88ft. in length by 42ft. wide, including the aisles, each of the transepts receding about 18ft. Externally the front towards St. Andrew\'s-terrace presents a gable termination, flanked by projecting buttresses which terminate, atop, in circular pinnacles. The church will be seated to accommodate upwards of 700 persons. The buildings have been carried out from designs furnished by Mr. Hippolyte J. Blanc, the style adopted throughout being Early Gothic of French type. [Building News 11 October 1878 p382]
