Charles Ross was a carpenter and joiner in London who periodically worked as an architect or surveyor. He worked as a carpenter under Matthew Brettingham at the 2nd Earl of Stafford’s house, No 5 St James’ Square in 1748-49 and at Marble Hill in Twickenham; for the same client he superintended the building of the south east wing at Wentworth Castle in Yorkshire in 1759. He continued there as draughtsman and executant architect until the completion of the building in 1764.

He was also employed at St James, Piccadilly under James Horn in 1756 and to have made furniture for the Royal Society of Arts in 1760. As an architect he rebuilt the west front of Kirtling Hall, Cambridgeshire for the 1st Earl of Guildford in the late 1740s. It is possible that he can be identified with the Mr Ross who completed the works at Blair Castle after the death of Roger Morris in 1749.

Ross died sometime between 1770 when he built or rebuilt a house in Mortimer Street, London for Lord Robert Bertie and 1775.
