Horace George Marsh was born on 16 March 1921, presumably in England. He was a pupil in the Birmingham firm of Bradley & Clarke (or Bradley S Clarke?) from September 1936 until 1941, attending Birmingham Evening School of Architecture. In 1941 he moved to the office of H W Weedon & Partners in the same city, and five years later left for London where he secured a position with R Jelinek-Karl. After a year in that practice he joined Sir John Burnet, Tait & Partners. He was still in the latter firm when he passed the final exam in June 1955 and was admitted ARIBA on 10 March 1956, his proposers being Gordon Tait, Harry W Weedon and A Bailey.

In March 1957 he left the Burnet office for that of Richard Seifert, who took him into partnership on 1 April the following year. He retained his post as senior partner there until at least 1970. He was elected FRIBA on 3 April 1968, for which his proposers were Seifert, Eric Lyons and H G Hammond.
