Thomas White was born on 28 August 1932, the son of Thomas White, clerk of works. He studied part-time at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art from 1951-54 and full-time from 1954-57. He was awarded his diploma and was elected ARIBA in 1957; he also received the Andrew Grant junior open scholarship in that year. During the period 1950-54 he served his articles with Rowand Anderson Kininmonth & Paul, returning as an assistant from 1957-59. In 1959 he transferred to Eric Hall & Partners and in 1965 became an Associate with Alan Reiach Eric Hall & Partners as the practice had become by that time. In 1967 he was working as principal assistant architect for Alison Hutchison & Partners. He was elected ARIAS in 1967 proposed by A W S Scott, H H Macdonald and G W Manson (?). He joined the practice of G R M Kennedy & Partners in the early 1970s.

He died on 2 February 1994, survived by his wife, his son and his daughter
