William Lamond Galloway was born on 20 July 1914, the son of Thomas Galloway, tailor's cutter and his wife Helen Lamond. He served his articles in the office of Mills & Shepherd in Dundee from 1931-36 while studying part-time at Dundee College of Art. After completing his training he moved to the office of Joseph Johnston as junior assistant where he remained for six months. From 1936-38 he was employed after normal working hours by William Guild who had a connection with the practice of Mills & Shepherd and who was to become a partner in the practice though the exact chronology of these events is yet to be established. He may have been assisting Guild on the designs for the Children's Block at Glenlomond Sanatorium, Kinross, the competition for which Guild had won in 1935. At the same time from 1937-39 Galloway was employed as a junior assistant with Mills & Shepherd.

From 1939-40 Galloway moved to a similar position with Johnston & Baxter, also in Dundee.

From 1940-46 Galloway served with the RAOC in Egypt and during this period was employed as a draughtsman on military installations.

After demobilization Galloway returned to the office of Mills & Shepherd, and was promoted to the position of chief assistant. He remained in this post until 1953 when he moved to the office of Thomas Whytock Reid, Reform Street, Dundee also as chief assistant.

Galloway was admitted LRIBA in 1956, his proposers being Thomas Hill Thoms, John Donald Mills and John Needham. Mills reported at the time of his election that he was an 'accurate, reliable and most useful assistant, an unusually good and quick draughtsman, well up on measuring on site and supervising work in progress'. He stated that he had mainlt worked on University building and domestic work. He was elected ARIAS in in 1964.

He was a partner in the Hugh Martin & Partner practice by 1970 where he remained until about 1980. He resigned from the RIBA in 1980.

Galloway died on 30 May 1987 at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. He was survived by his wife, Louie Isobel Sears.
