Robert George Will was born on 29 June 1910, the son of Robert Will, wholesale druggist, and his wife Jessie Wishart Blake. He took day classes at the School of Architecture, Robert Gordon's College from September 1927. In July 1930 he commenced his apprenticeship in the office of Jenkins & Marr whilst continuing to attend evening classes at the School. He passed the final exam in July 1933 and was admitted ARIBA on 8 January 1934, his proposers being Robert Leslie Rollo, Robert Gordon Wilson Junior and T Scott Sutherland. His declaration accepting his admittance was witnessed on 13 January by William A Davidson at the Jenkins & Marr office at 16 Bridge Street, Aberdeen, suggesting that Will had remained as assistant after completing his training.

By 1948-49 Will had moved to Pakistan to work for or to hold the post of the Chief Architect, Pakistan Public Works Department, Karachi. In 1954-55 he was working Iraq, possibly for the Ottoman Bank, though this address may have been given in RIBA Kalendars simply for convenience. He remained there until at least 1960. He would appear to have retired to Tangier, Morocco by 1966. He is no longer entered in the Kalendar for 1967-68.
