John Murray Easton was born in 1889 and articled to George Bennett Mitchell of Aberdeen in August 1905, studying at Robert Gordon's Technical College. In 1912 he spent six months in France before moving to London, where he attended classes at University College School of Architecture under Professor Simpson. Over the following two years, whilst pursuing his studies, he assisted in the office of Granville Edward Stewart Streatfeild, Collcutt & Hamp, Raymond Unwin, and Wimperis & Simpson. His FRIBA nomination papers show a gap in his career from 1914 to 1916, suggesting that he volunteered for war service but was invalided home, as in the latter year he returned to Wimperis & Simpson. He remained with them until 1919 when he commenced practice as a principal in partnership with Howard Morley Robertson at 168 Regent Street, London. He passed the qualifying exam in July 1921 and was admitted ARIBA later that year, his proposers being Edmund Walter Wimperis, William Begg Simpson and Horace Cowley Nesham Farquharson.

He served as architectural editor of 'Building News' in 1924 and 1925 and wrote many articles for this and other journals, including two on the Stockholm Town Hall in 1924 for 'Architectural Review' and 'Architecture'. He was elected FRIBA on 14 February 1927, his proposers being Stanley Hinge Hamp, Thomas Smith Tait and Robertson, with whom he was still in partnership, their office now being at 36 Bedford Square.

He died in 1975.
