Bio Notes :
Marmaduke Tudsbery Tudsbery was born on 4 October 1892. He was educated at Westminster and Imperial College London and trained (as an engineer?) in the Yarrow shipbuilding year in Glasgow.
During the First World War he was commissioned into the special reserve of officers of the Royal Engineers. He remained in the Army until 1925.
In 1925 he obtained a post with the BBC and remained with the corporation for the rest of his career as in-house engineer, being consulting civil engineer from 1952-60. His main achievement was the identification of the site for the new BBC building and recommending its purchase. He worked closely with the architect on the design of the building.
Tudsbery was also responsible for the programme of work required for the television service in particular the BBC televison centre.
Tudsbery never married and was a very private person. He was an active member of the Athenaeum for many years. He enjoyed travel and wrote up accounts of his journeys which he had privately printed and distributed to friends.
He died aged 90 on 9 May 1983.
