Bio Notes :
Neil Robson was born in Ayrshire in 1807 or 1808. He was apprenticed to Glasgow civil engineer David Smith and remained as an assistant until 1833 when he commenced practice on his own account at 19 Miller Street as a civil and mining engineer and land surveyor. His work was mainly concerned with the rapidly expanding railway network. He retired from engineering in 1860 to join his brother-in-law James Merry in managing the ironfounding firm of Merry & Cuninghame.
Robson died on 1 February 1869 at the age of sixty-one, after a short illness and was buried in Glasgow Necropolis where a stone with inscriptions can be found. He was survived by his wife Agnes Merry whom he had married in 1838. She died 27 November 1883. Their daughter Agnes (Mrs T R J Logan) predeceased her on 6 July 1879. A son, James Merry Robson, died on 11 September 1885, aged 35.
