Andrew Myles
Architect - Engineer
Exact Date
Exact Date
19/12/1905
Andrew Myles was born c.1841 in Glasgow, the son of Andrew Myles, originally from Fife, and his wife Helen Malcolm, who came from Stirlingshire.

He is described as an 'Architect's Draughtsman in the 1861 census. It is not yet known to which practice he was articled but by the early 1870s he had become a partner of the industrial architect and civil engineer Angus Kennedy and his son James as Angus Kennedy, Son & Myles, with an office at 99 Bath Street. The elder Kennedy died in 1870, the firm retaining its existing title until Myles departed to commence independent practice at 121 Wellington Street about 1873. Shortly thereafter he moved to 143 West Regent Street.

Myles had musical and artistic interests and was President of the Glasgow Choral Union in 1883. He had a very large practice, and overwork may have contributed to his death from premature senile dementia and pneumonia at Wester Kames, Bute on 19 December 1905 at the age of sixty-four. He was survived by his wife Jane Nora Smith whom he had married late, sometime after 1891, as in the census of the latter year he was registered as single and living with his widowed mother.
