Bio Notes :
William Fowler of Golspie was born about 1824, the eldest son of George Fowler, builder, Edinburgh. He was a pupil of David Bryce. He was appointed Estate Surveyor to the Duke of Sutherland in 1857. He was influenced by George Devey, who designed buildings on the estate in the 1850s, some of which were executed by Fowler. Fowler retired in the 1880s and returned to Edinburgh. His position on the estate was taken over by Laurie Bisset.
Fowler died on 3 February 1906.
