Barrett announced that the original building (erected about eighteen months ago), with the ground, had cost £1044 18s Gd, which with the pre sent contract £560, and extras £-10, had entailed an expenditure of £1644 18s 7d. The main hall 60 ,by 40 is a commodious building, well ventilated, and lined with varnished pine. To.the rear of an extensive platform are ladies' and gentleman's retiring rooms, 28 by 14 and 16 by 14 respectively. Crossing the entrance door a large vestibule 16 by 12 is entered, on either side of which are comfortable offices, above which is a lodge room 135 by 16 and ante rooms. The ventilation up-stairs is perfect, and the finished character of the interior denotes practical workmanship on the part of the contractor, Mr Atkins. .The appearance of the facade is quite an ornament to the borough, and the whole erection reflects great credit on the skill and taste of the architect, Mr A. E. Duguid, On the motion of Mr W. G.
