'When designed the Mall was an early example of an enclosed shopping centre in Scotland and subject to very stringest Building Regulations. It was a low maintenance, low energy, 2-storey building with natural lighting and ventilation, with white wall toling internally. The centre was built on an awkward site in Townhead Street, Cumnock, just beside the Glaisnock Water and had 17 small shops, 2 larger shops, a supermarket and office space with a well landscaped car park' (Ian Samuel)
