Notes: built on a site previously owned by Heriot Watt University, behind the Crown Office building on Chambers Street. The building provides 16 courtrooms, accomodation and offices for the Regional Sheriff Clerk and the Regional Procuratror Fiscal and their respective staff, secure cells, conference rooms, press rooms, a creche, car parking, solicitors and witness rooms and a restaurant. The project was completed on time and in budget, at a cost of £47 Million. The decorative iron work to Chambers Street was designed in partnership with the Royal Fine Arts Commission for Scotland.

Prior to construction the Courts were housed in a veriety of different locations. As well as the Lawnmarket Court House there were temporary courts at the Church of Scotland Assembly Hall, Argyl House on the West Port and India Buildings on Victoria Street.
