Basic Site Details Name: | Westerton Garden Suburb: Tennis Club and Bowling Club | Town, district or village: | Westerton, Bearsden | City or county: | Glasgow | Country: | Scotland | Parish: | | Status: | | Grid ref: | | Notes: | In accordance with perceived good practice, the Westerton Garden Suburb master plan of 1913 made suitable provision for recreational facilities. These included tennis and cricket on the present recreation ground behind the village hall on Maxwell Avenue. In addition there were plans for a children’s playground at the end of Northview and bowling greens and tennis courts on land behind the proposed church. This was to be situated on the higher ground behind the village forming a landmark at the end of the axial way from the village hall (approx the present Westfield Crescent). This later phase of the master plan was never progressed, space for the bowling greens eventually being found at the recreation ground. | Building Type ClassificationThe building is classified under the following categories: | | Classification | Original classification? | Notes | | Sports ground | | |
