Notes: On 30th October 1941 the original Palace Hotel was destroyed by fire. In 1947 the London & North Eastern Railway (Hotels Branch) proposed the rebuilding of the Palace Hotel at an estimated cost of £150,000.

This scheme does not seem to have progressed beyond the iniitial stages, the nationalisation of the railways on 1 January 1948 presumably the cause.
