| 1952 | | Scheme accepted | Plans approved for erection of 426 homes in blocks of three-storey flats and four-storey maisonettes. The dominant feature of the plan is an eight-storey block on a 30-acre site at Ashgrove Road, providing 32 family homes.
The 'skyscraper' is to be of reinforced concrete, intended to harmonise with the city's traditional granite.
It is intended that this will be the first of many high-rises in the city, as the Council have accepted that the city has reached its potential for outward development. |
