Basic Site Details Name: | Cinema, Hall Street | Town, district or village: | Campbeltown | City or county: | Argyll | Country: | Scotland | Parish: | | Status: | Demolished | Grid ref: | | Notes: | Campbeltown Dean of Guild simply lists 'Cinema, Hall Street' by Fairweather, 1938. This was probably the Rex Cinema, which, like the Picture House (by Albert V Gardner - see separate entry), was on Hall Street (see websites http://www.kintyremag.co.uk/2002/54/ and http://www.chem.gla.ac.uk/~gbarr/cinemas/scotland/campbeltown.html). It is highly unlikely to apply to work on the Picture House as the latter had been rebuilt by Gardner only three years previously.
A cinema is to be erected on the fronnt by Messrs George Green Limited Glasgow. [Builder 24 December 1937 Page 1170].
Plans are being prepared for the erection of a cinema for a Glasgow picture house syndicate. The architects are Messrs J Fairweather and Son 184 Trongate Glasgow. [Builder 4 March 1938 Page 467]
