Home of J R H McDonald, featured in Country Life in June 1935, with plans. Designed by McDonald as his own home, three reception rooms, four bedrooms, driveway climbs hill to font terrace. Downpipes concealed within walls, front symmetrical, south east has corner windows and balconies to catch sun. Black glass shelves over hall radiators, red lacquered stair rails, large hall linked to living room for entertaining guests. Mirrored recesses with etched glass Scottish lions rampant and American flags representing owner and wife. French doors, sunporch, various utilities planned for servants’ convenience including pantry, wash-hosue, coal store and boiler house. Three ensuite bathrooms upstairs, three balconies, two maids’ rooms accessed separately. Electric central heating boiler fuelled by coal, uniform temperature of 70 degrees claimed. Efficiency of heat thermostats and large windows described.
