Notes: The first competition, held in 1884-1886, for a new Anglican Cathedral on a site near St George’s Hall, Liverpool, had been a disaster. and the project was abandoned in 1888. Not until 1902 did the Cathedral Committee launch a second open competition to select a design intended for a magnificent new site on a rocky ridge above St James Cemetery. The competition attracted 103 entries including designs from Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Charles Herbert Reilly.
Assessors, - George F. Bodley and Norman Shaw.
