Notes: The original M&S store was designed by J M Munro & Sons in 1935, and built on the site at 172-174 Sauchiehall Street. It adopted the modular grid system that was developed by architect Robert Lutyens, who was appointed consultant architect by Marks and Spencer in 1934.

The M&S store in Ayr was the first designed and built using this modular system that Lutyens had developed.

In 1938, was extended to the West.

In 1985 Marks and Spencer expanded, acquiring the site of the former Woolworth building to the east, which stood at 164-168 Sauchiehall Street.
