Notes: Considerable alterations and improvements have just been commenced in connection with the premises of the Bank of Scotland at Dundee, from the designs of Mr. George S Aitken, architect. [Building News 3 October 1879 p397]

DUNDEE - The alterations and extensions of the Bank of Scotland premises in Dundee, being complete, the building has been reopened for business. The original bank was complicated in plan, and inefficiently lighted, and opportunity was taken in the alterations of extending the telling-room area by covering in an open court. The result has been a large symmetrically arranged telling-room well lit, and with increased agentís and waiting-room accommodation . The south floor is partly devoted to spacious book and cash safes, with a stair and lift communicating. The agent's house, which occupies the upper floors of block, has been entirely remodelled; as a considerable part of its floors and walls are over a void space in the telling-room, wrought-iron beams, of large scantling, have been employed as means of support. These are partly sustained by granite shafts with stone carved caps and bases, which form an architectural feature in the room. The whole of the work has been carried out from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr G S Aitken, architect, Dundee. [Building News 3 December 1880 p659]
