Sheehan married Janet Arkley Sime, daughter of Thomas Young Sime and Anne Ashley White, in Linlithgow on 21 December 1937, and they went on to have several daughters. At the time of his marriage he was living at 27 Hailes Gardens, Colinton and was still at this address in 1950.
By 1950 he was a Member of the Institute of Registered Architects. Assistant to Forgie on cattle byres at Roddinglaw.
Joined the Edinburgh City Architects team - and is recorded in 1932 on City Architects staff billiards team (Evening News)
He signed drawings JWS. W is drawn unusually.
He died in Edinburgh in 1965 aged 60, and his wife died the following year aged 59
