Bio Notes: William Haldane was born in Glasgow on 27 April 1876. He was articled to James Lymburn Cowan from 1893 to 1897, then joined John Hutchison as assistant in 1898, moving to a similar post in the office Alexander Skirving in 1899 and remaining there until 1903. During this period he studied architecture and building construction at the Glasgow School of Art.

Haldane emigrated to Canada in 1903 and settled in Montreal, where he worked for the leading firm of Edward & W.S. Maxwell, and for Hutchison & Wood. In early 1907 he moved to Vancouver, B.C. and worked as an assistant in the office of Parr & Fee in 1907-08. In 1908 he formed a partnership with George C. Egg. They operated two offices, one in Nelson run by Egg, and a branch office in nearby Fernie, B.C., run by Haldane. Their collaboration had ended by early 1911, with Haldane moving to Nelson where he opened business on his own account. He remained active there until 1920, but by 1921 he had returned to Vancouver to continue to work there.

Haldane may have moved to Montreal in the mid-1920s. An entry in a directory of Canadian architects of 1928 listed 'Will Haldane' as working in the office of Ross & Macdonald.
