Basic Biographical Details Name: | Alastair Gilfillan Donaldson | Designation: | | Born: | 27 April 1955 | Died: | 18 June 2013 | Bio Notes: | Alastair Gilfillan Donaldson was born on 27 April 1955 in Edinburgh, the youngest of the three children of John Donaldson, accountant, and his wife Gladys Beth Donaldson, a college lecturer. He grew up in Currie and attended George Watsons' College in Edinburgh. From 1972-75 he studied architecture at Heriot Watt University. He became in involved with music while at University and later played with various bands including the Rezillos which enjoyed a certain amount of success.
However he decided to return to his original career and completed his architectural studies at the University of Hull. He returned to Edinburgh, working as an architect in various firms including Broad & Hughes which was based in South College Street. However he continued his musical career and throughout his later years made his living entirely from music.
He died on 18 June 2013. He married twice, first in 1991 to Janice with whom he had a daughter and second to Ksenija Horvat in 2004 with whom he had a son.
