George Winton was born about 1759 and worked as an architect in Edinburgh. He was involved in various buildings in the New Town of Edinburgh in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He purchased some feus when John Brough went bankrupt.
He died on 30 November 1822, aged 63. He is described as 'architect' on a large monument erected in his memory in St Cuthbert's Churchyard.
