There were several generations of master masons called Alexander Stronach in Tarbat, Easter Ross. They worked there from the mid-17th century until the end of the 18th century. In the early 19th century Alexander Stronach was factor to the Earl of Fife and worked in Banff.
Colvin states that their style was conservative and shows the influence of the Continent and is 'characterised by strongly expressed turrets surmounted by stone cones or domes separated only by a slight stringcourse from the vertical wall'.
