Bio Notes: John Smith was a master mason who worked in Linlithgow during the reign of Charles II. In 1667 John Mylne, King's Master Mason, died before the construction of the new Linlithgow tolbooth. The following year John Smith was appointed to complete the building which was 'in all respects conforme to the draught thereof drawn up be him'. Little other work by him is known.
