Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Ogilvy | Designation: | | Born: | 1750 | Died: | 1811 | Bio Notes: | James Ogilvy was born in 1750, the son of the 6th Earl of Seafield. In 1770 he inherited his titles, becoming the 7th Earl of Findlater and Seafield, and also inherited extensive estates at Cullen and elsewhere in the north of Scotland. He lived abroad in exile of his own choosing and in Dresden he sponsored the publication of the volume ‘Les Plans et Dessins tiré de la Belle Architecture’ published in Paris and Leipzig in 1798. A number of designs were contributed by Findlater according to text in the book. However he did not design any buildings on his estates in Scotland. His only known building, dating from 1796, was an office-court at Renig, Saxony for Count Schoenburg and he made alterations to his own house in Dresden.
He was separated from his wife. He died at Dresden in 1811.
