Bio Notes: James Ogilvy was born about 1700 and worked as a master mason in Pittensair in Morayshire in the parish of St Andrews Lhanbryde. A small well-detailed house there is inscribed with his name and the date 1735. Information about Ogilvy is found in the lawsuit of William Adam against Lord Braco. Ogilvy stated that as a young man he worked on Mereworth Castle in Kent which was the house of Sir Gregory Page at Blackheath and at the church of St Martin’s in the Field. He went on to say that his work in Scotland mainly consisted of repairing kirks and building one kirk, building manses and ‘putting up Ministers’ Monuments’.
