Bio Notes: Michael Angelo Nicholson was born in Scotland about 1796, the son of Peter Nicholson, architect and architectural writer and his first wife. He studied architectural drawing at Richard Brown's school in London and subsequently moved to the office of John Foulston, also in London. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1814 and exhibited from time to time at the Royal Academy.

He engraved the plates for his father's works and also collaborated with him in the publication of 'The Practical Cabinet Maker (1846). He was employed by other architectural writers as draughtsman and lithographer (he drew the frontispiece of Richard Elsam's 'Practice Builder's Perpetual Price Book (1825) and lithographed the plates for Inwood's Erecthion' (1826). He also published some works of his own.

He ran a school of architectural drawing in Melton Place, Euston Square in London. He practised very little as an architect although he had some kind of input in the construction of Carstairs House for which he exhibited a view at the RA in 1823.

Nicholson died on 11 November 1841. He was survived by two daughters, one of whom married Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and the other John Baird, Thomson's partner.
