Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Mylne | Designation: | | Born: | 1662 | Died: | 9 March 1728 | Bio Notes: | William Mylne was born in 1662, the eldest son of Robert Mylne (died 1710) and his wife Elizabeth Meikle. He was admitted a burgess of Edinburgh in 1687 and was a leading member of the Edinburgh masonic lodge.
He sold the Balfargie estate, acquired by his father, to George Balfour of Balbirnie in 1711. He lived in one of the houses his father had built at Leith. He died on 9 March 1728 and was buried at South Leith. He is commemorated by an inscription on the family monument in Greyfriars Cemetery (left hand column). He was succeeded by his son Thomas.
