His clients included the 3rd Earl of Marchmont and his son-in-law Walter Scott of Harden, M.P.. In the London accounts of the latter there are payments to Gibson for plans as well as for marble chimneypieces which were probably for his house in London in Hertford Street rather than at Harden in Roxburghshire.
In 1753 Henry Fieldings's 'Proposal for making an Effectual Provision for the Poor' an engraved plan and elevation for a workhouse for the County of Middlesex is signed 'Thomas Gibson, archt'.
