Bio Notes: Charles Freebairn was the son of James Freebairn, teacher of French in Edinburgh. The younger Freebairn practised in Edinburgh. He undertook various jobs in Perthshire. In 1756 he was elected a member of the Royal Company of Archers. In 1761 he was admitted a burgess of Edinburgh by right of his father when he was described as a wright by trade.

In the early 1770s he was a 'tacksman' of the mines in Islay and was involved with the sale of their lease. He died probably in 1781 as a meeting of his creditors was called in January 1782 at which point he is described as 'the deceased Charles Freebairn, late architect in Edinburgh'.
